La historia de Faith No More hasta llegar a este álbum fue bastante enredada. Resumiendo: se separan en 1998 sin citar un motivo oficial. En 2008 surgen rumores de una posible reunión, que si que no, se reúnen en 2009 con motivo de dar algunos shows, «sin» el objetivo de producir material nuevo. En el 2011 se produce un hiato de 1 año. Finalmente, después de muchas idas y vueltas, a finales de 2014 sale la noticia de que se lanzaría un nuevo álbum en 2015 y heló aquí, su séptimo álbum de estudio, que mantiene la misma alineación que en su ultimo álbum («Álbum Of the Year«) lanzado 18 años atrás.

Faith No More – Álbum Of The Year (1997)

Con este álbum, publicado en 1997, Faith No More nos dan a conocer a su nuevo guitarrista, Jon Hudson, quien sustituye a Dean Menta, que sólo fue el guitarrista de la banda durante la gira de presentación de su anterior trabajo, «King For A Day… Fool For A Lifetime» (1995).
Tal y como sucedió con la anterior entrega de la banda, «Álbum Of The Year» es un trabajo más directo, musicalmente hablando, que sus predecesores, siendo éste (obra póstuma) su álbum más centrado y conciso.
De entre los 12 temas que conforman la obra, cabe destacar tres temas excepcionales: «Stripsearch», «Last Cup Of Sorrow» y «Ashes To Ashes«, que mezclan hard rock y pop melódico de esa forma que sólo ellos saben hacer, mientras que «Helpless» es una composición impredecible en la cual se dan cita riffs de guitarra al más puro estilo metal, con esa forma templada con la que Patton adorna muchos de los temas de la banda. La explosivas «Collision» (que abre el álbum) y «Naked In Front Of The Computer» (PAPA ROACH la versionan en el CD single de «She Loves Me Not», 2002) dejan muestra que la banda todavía puede componer temas duros al más puro estilo old school.
«Álbum Of The Year» es un excelente último trabajo para la banda alternativa más importante de las últimas décadas; un más que digno colofón a más de 15 años de carrera.
