Con el nombre Fredrik Thordendal’s Special Defects, Thordendal realizó un álbum en 1997 llamado Sol Niger Within con la discográfica Ultimate Audio Entertainment. El álbum fue mezclado y lanzado al mercado por segunda vez por Ultimate Audio Entertainment and Relapse Records en 1999 con el titulo Sol Niger Within version 3.33. El relanzamiento contiene dos pistas inéditas pero omite varias partes de la versión original.

Proyecto paralelo del ex cantante de Dark Tranquility y actual In Flames: Anders Fridén.
Si bien su corte inicial, “In Reverse”, se muestra a medio camino entre el nu-metal imperante y el renovado sonido de IN FLAMES, PASSENGER apuesta por una propuesta muy arriesgada que intenta combinar la vertiente más dura del rock con estribillos que rozan lo alternativo en su melodía, llegando a contonearse con la música pop. Seguramente, este disco vendría a ser el paso evolutivo que preferiría Anders Fridén como continuación a “Reroute to remain”, aunque dudo que IN FLAMES se atrevan a tal herejía metálica. No obstante. PASSENGER ofrece una visión musical bastante ecléctica aunque, en temas como “Circus” o “Carnival diaries”, la cosa llegue a rozar lo antinatural.
