Live Nu Metal

Fundado en 1995, su nombre viene de las monedas de níquel que Chad Kroeger tenía que devolver a los clientes de la cafetería Starbucks en la que trabajaba. En ella tenía que decir a sus clientes «aquí tiene su vuelta» (traducción no literal de «here’s your nickel back» y que hace referencia a las monedas de níquel de 5 centavos).
El núcleo del grupo proviene de Hanna, Alberta, aunque actualmente están establecidos en Vancouver, Columbia Británica.
Nickelback fueron ayudados en sus inicios por la ley canadiense denominada Cancon. Dicha ley establece que debe haber un determinado porcentaje de música de artistas canadienses en las radios del país. Su segundo LP, The State, los lanzó al estrellato con dos éxitos que alcanzarón los diez primeros puestos en la lista de ventas (siendo uno de ellos «Leader of Men») y el siguiente álbum Silver Side Up, con el single más escuchado, «How You Remind Me», les dieron un status de superestrellas, consiguiendo numerosos éxitos en cada álbum desde entonces.
