Su último trabajo, el disco «An Ocean Between Us», fue lanzado en agosto de 2007. Este disco presenta muchas más canciones que son cantadas por el nuevo bajista Josh Gilbert en forma limpia, la inclusión de pianos y organos en «This Is Who We Are», una tendencia, aunque mínima, hacia el thrash metal en canciones como «Within Destruction» y «Comfort Betrays»

El álbum dio popularidad a As I Lay Dying, cuyos videos para los singles de 94 Hours y Forever, aparecieron por un largo tiempo en el programa de televisión de MTV2 «Headbanger’s Ball». «Frail Words Collapse» se colocó en las listas de Billboard en el puesto 30 con más de 250.000 copias vendidas.
