Después de la disolución de Big Dumb Face, Wes Borland Formó Black Light Burns a lado de Danny Lohner (Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle), Josh Eustis (Telefon Tel Aviv) y Josh Freese (The Vandals, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails), el sonido de su primer albúm Cruel Melody estaba orientado al Industrial Nü-Metal Influenciado por Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson y Un Poco de lo que ya se cargaba Wes de Limp Bizkit.
Este es un albúm recopilatorio donde se incluye en su mayoria Covers que pasan desde Duran Duran hasta Big Dumb Face, También se incluyeron algunos instrumentales que quedaron fuera de Cruel Melody, por lo tanto al tratarse en su mayoría de covers no se nota mucho ese Industrial Nü-Metal que había mencionado antes, no por eso deja de tener algunos temas rescatables.
